Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior political figure said the vandalism left him speechless and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
