Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.
It is his initial trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after March of 2023.
The win also indicates he has secured 21 titles at 21 different events.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.
"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.
Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was finished.
But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an better serving game.
He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.
The pair traded break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.
Moutet rescued four early-game break points in a close final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
