Together Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Relationship.

Here's a challenge for long-term couples who enjoy horror films: Sit down with your loved one and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like standard body horror, but inside Together lies a intense examination about the ways we decide to love each other.

An Introductory Film Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have been together for over ten years. United in marriage in reality in 2017, the two stars infuse a particular energy to their roles, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a committed partnership.

The plot begins when the couple transition from the big city to the country for her career. A commonly used narrative setup, of course, but that’s mostly where the conventions conclude. Together becomes as much a deep dive into the psyche of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their new home, a tempest descends, and the two tumble into an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a strange force begins influencing the pair. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying fright fest, blending elements of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) body horror, and genuinely funny interactions (sometimes during something disturbing). The director orchestrates these parts expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is only Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his floundering music career gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and removed from his network of friends. He is terrified of the concept of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is amplified by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together never makes Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

The couple face the sort of issues that are inherent in most partnerships over a long period. Deep down, they still love one another. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these fears of codependency and giving oneself over to another person, the allegory does not come across as hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that single viewers have seen the movie as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. Conversely, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could potentially serve as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your partner and say, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can embark on right now.
